Spiffy People: Jenn Lyons

Who: Jenn Lyons

What: Author and Artist

Where (to stalk her):

Why:

My goodness, I seem to know a lot of authors, don’t I??  That’s ok, they’re great people and well worth the knowing! I promise, I am only recommending GOOD ones, though!

Jenn here happens to have three different series going on right now, each in a different genre. I’m positive that you’ll find something in her back of tricks that tickles your fancy.  She’s been at this for a very long time, and I’m not going to lie, I’m a bit of a fangirl.

The first series I’d like to nudge you to read is urban fantasy (my personal favorite genre, if you hadn’t picked up on this one yet) – the Blood Chimera Series.  That happens to be the name of the first book in that series as well – Blood Chimera.

You know all those things that go bump in the night?  They happen to be real.  Jackson, the main man in these, only found out about this after he was killed and came back with a mighty fine thirst for a certain red libation. Now he’s getting thrown into the midst of all things spooky, and here is he, only 2 weeks vamp. He had a rough life while he was living, but he made the best of it.  He went the military route then into the K&R (kidnapping and ransom) biz. He was one of the good guys when he was a life, and he tries his damnedest to hold to those same morals now that he’s… more. It’s not easy, but he’s still one of the good guys.

I’m not going to lie to you, folks – Jackson?  One of my serious literary crushes.

I’m currently re-reading this series as the third book is soon to be out, and I can. Not. Wait.

For those who enjoy their sci-fi, we have Marduk’s Rebellion –  first book of the Warn in Heaven series.  For those that know me, you should know I love me some bad-ass chicks, and Mallory fits that bill all the way around. Is she perfect? HELL NO.

Here, we’ve been rebelling against our would-be alien saviors for a good century when they suddenly decide they don’t feel like fighting and surrender. WHAT??  What’s any good rebellion to do at that point? Mallory’s on the human side of that. Our girl definitely has a strong sense of justice, and when she witnesses an assassination of an official, she’s got to do something about that, right?  Too bad it’s one of the aliens who was assassinated.

The second book in this series has just recently come out – Making Shiva.

Now the BIG why…

Jenn is an amazing person, all the way around. I met her online, of all places, over a decade ago at this point. Both being geeks, we hit it off very well indeed!! She was working on Blood Chimera at the time, and guess who has two thumbs and got to be a beta reader?

Oh yes, I’ve had a thing for Jackson for a very long time. Leave me alone.

Jenn is someone I look up to a great deal. So much so, I asked her to be one of MY Beta readers for Wake Up Call.  For those of you who love Ve? You can thank this lady right here.  She pointed out that I had too many dudes (Ve was once a guy… shhh….). It was honestly not something I had noticed before since I knew there were so many women that were doing things, but all of that was in the background.

Ve was thus born, and frankly, the stories are better for it!!

Oh yes, I had mentioned that she was an artist, too, didn’t I? more specifically, she was the artist who did the cover for Wake Up Call. She knocked that puppy out in 24 hours, and I couldn’t be happier with it! While she didn’t do the work for Mother Knows Best, she plans on doing the other covers as the books come out.

Jenn is someone I respect a great deal.  Just like with JM Guillen and Ben Reeder, I would not be in the position I am now as a writer if it was not for this woman.
