I Survived 2016

No one can deny that 2016 was a rough year, all the way around.

In addition to all the STUFF going on out there, it’s been a rough year for me and mine as well. This is not the kind of stuff I normally talk about, but I know so many of you are out there waiting for Book 3 of the Nasaru Chronicles, and I feel I owe you an explanation as to why you have not seen it as of yet, and why it will be several more months.

This is not an excuse, mind you, but an explanation of what has been going on.

So let’s just dive right into it, shall we?

Last December, my mother was diagnosed with cancer. This was her third time dealing with the Big C, and it was a different form than before.  In March, she had a double-mastectomy. There were some issues, and she had to go back in for surgery a couple of times as her body did not adjust well afterwards.

In the midst of my mother’s surgeries – as I was driving down for her second one, in fact – I get a call from my sister.  She’s was also diagnosed with a form of the Big C. Skin cancer for her (and for the record, this was my little sister’s second round of it).

Since spring, I have been going back and forth between Springfield and Little Rock a number of times as both of them required a few different surgeries.  My sister required another major surgery back in November, unrelated to the skin cancer.

Ah, and an hour after my sister’s surgery?  We found out my mother yet again had cancer.  That is 4 times now, for those following along at home.

….

So, yes.  A very rough year indeed.

I have not been focusing on my writing as much, worrying about the two of them.

I know my family comes first.  Again, not an excuse – simply an explanation as to what has been going on.

But writing is proceeding.  I believe we are over the worst of it, and the writing itself helps me.  It settles my brain, and gives me something to focus on.  Sometimes that is easier than other times.

I am tentatively shooting for May for Book 3 to be released, though it may be later depending upon… life. And Murphy (as in Murphy’s Law) has had it out for my family this year.

But I refuse to let him win, by golly!!  2016 WILL NOT WIN!!

So chin up, we push onwards.

A lot of things will be changing in 2017.

First, I have informed all members of my family that we are hence forth having a moratorium on the Big C. Between my mom and my sis, they have had enough surgeries this year to last the next ten, at the very least.  I also told my son that they took his turns, too, so he’s just flat out of luck if he wanted to go that route. Just isn’t allowed.

Thank you all so much for your support and understanding.  You’ll get a proper, full length novel soon, and I’ll keep cranking them out – I have so many more stories to tell in this universe (and others).
